What can be better than skating a halfpipe in the afternoon and topping it off with walking steps to the ocean?!

That was the case with us last week. We were able to bring our OC RAMPS Installation Crew to this backyard in Malibu, California. Our wonderful customers wanted a 16' wide halfpipe with two extensions. The ramp is normally 3.5' tall, the extensions make the ramp 5' tall.

We were happy to work with several Laguna Beach residents in getting a custom installed halfpipe. These mini ramps are great for residential use and going in the backyard. Below is an image to the 12' wide halfpipe with an extension. We decided to add two layers of skating surface plywood to match the heavy traffic and use on this ramp.

Below is another halfpipe ramp we built- its the garage mini ramp. This skateboard ramp sits 2' tall, 16' long and 8' wide. Its great for customers with limited space. This specific ramp went on the driveway.

A couple of months ago we had the grand opportunity of working with GOOGLE. They were constructing some new buildings within their headquarter facilities in Northern California- Palo Alto/Mountain View areas. As we already knew, GOOGLE treats their employees well. Their offices have full time gourmet chefs, basketball courts, trampolines, and all sorts of fun for their workers. GOOGLE wanted a custom made wooden skateboard ramp for their staff. Who would have thought-- a bunch of computer geeks want to skateboard a mini ramp!?!

For a bunch of technology buffs, they really knew what they wanted in their skate ramp. They specified the ramp needed to be at least 5 feet tall with a mellow transition- between a 7-8 foot radius. Based on their designs and plans for the ramp, we then had to decide on the right materials. Obviously, they wanted nothing but the best! Apart from using the highest grade lumbers available on the market, we also had to use 'green' lumber. Not green in color!...green in the sense that certain chemicals are not present. Their halfpipe is one of the best ramps we've ever built.

More new products are coming. For the holidays we have a new launch ramp that will be available in early December. This is no ordinary launch or wedge ramp. This skate ramp can be converted into a manual pad (aka grind box or fun box). In essence, this ramp is a two-on-one item. This ramp is great for skateboards, scooters and bikes!

If you buy 3 launch ramps, you can convert the center one to a manual pad and have the outer ramps be the launch. This photo (below) shows 2 ramps- 1 was created into the manual pad as the other launch ramp secures to it.

A couple of weeks ago, we had the pleasure of going outside Hollywood to Will Smith's house. His son, Jaden, is a young teenage skater that was anxious to get a professionally built halfpipe. Who did they call? None other than OC RAMPS, of course!

We took a small crew to install the wooden mini ramp. We pulled up to their gorgeous house and began unloading the skate ramp kit into their house- yes the ramp went inside! There is a small game room with the perfect spot for the half pipe. That area couldn't have been built any better for the ramp- it was meant to be!

Who doesn't like going to ride at a skateboard park? Skate parks offer something that street riding does not. So what is it that makes the skate park so exciting?

I can find a number of reasons. For starters, the layout of a skate park is generally designed by ramp professionals. For example, most skate parks designed by Vans or the X-Games are done with skateboard professionals as well. In a park, you typically are confined to a certain amount of limited space. It is the job of these 'pros' to establish the best possible park by maximizing all the space available. Another plus about skate parks are the quality. Many skaters who build their own ramps are not using the same quality as a professional that installs a skate park. Its safe to say that the best ramps and rails to ride are done at a legit skate park.

The 4th of July is one of our favorite holidays. Who doesn't enjoy the beach, sunny weather, BBQs and lighting things on fire?! This year, we decided to enter a float for the fourth of July parade in Huntington Beach, California. This parade is the largest on the west side of the Mississippi; over 250,000 people each year gather to support the community and family/friends. Our float included a custom built mini ramp halfpipe! The ramp was roughly 3 feet tall with a 4 foot tall extension. Obviously, the ramp was painted after the American flag. The skating surface was red, the transitional sides were painted blue. White stars were placed all over the mini ramp.

The skaters are what topped off the event; Vert ramp skater, Steve Hennings, can tear up any skate ramp. Street skater, AJ "Ajax" Johnson, can ride just about anything. Grom skater, Griffin, is only 14 and skates like a pro. Lastly, youngin' Curren, is only 6 years old--the crowd loved him. Click here to see more photos...

OC Ramps does build custom ramps. We mainly mass product the skateboard ramp kits that are found on our website, yet we also design/install custom ramps of all sizes. We can install bigger/taller halfpipes, quarterpipes, manual pads, etc. Anything you can think of- we've built it. Click to read more.

A few weeks ago we had the great opportunity to install a custom half pipe at a residence in Huntington Beach, California. This ramp sits 4' tall with a 6' tall extension, 16' wide and 30' long. We used 3 layers of plywood for the skating surface with a final coat of SkatePaint. Since the property is within just a few blocks from the ocean, they get a good amount of moisture in the air and dew. Skatepaint is necessary to protect the wood and ramp.

We've been working hard on our new website, Skatepaint. The site has existed for over 5 years- but we felt it was time to do some updates and revisions. We like things simple and saw the need to make the new website user-friendly and easy to navigate. We feel we've accomplished that. Skatepaint is a great product to seal and protect your wooden skateboard ramp. Click here to learn more about Skatepaint.
